Nanning, the capital city of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, has a history of 1,680 years, an area of 22,112 sq km (city proper: 1799 square kilometers), and a population of 6.5 million. Since 2004, Nanning has been confirmed as the permanent venue for the China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO), and a pivot city for the two-way exchanges between China and the ASEAN countries.
With mild subtropical monsoon climate, Nanning has plentiful sunshine and rich resources, and is one the most inhabitable “green city” of China in the western part of the country. Nanning has 41 kinds of proven mineral resources including manganese, zinc, lead, arenaceous quartz, crystals, barites, and granites. It abounds with such agricultural produce as rice, corn, sugarcane, cassava, crude fiber, tea, jasmine flower, and chestnuts, as well as over 40 kinds of subtropical fruits like banana, pineapple, mango, litchi, and longan.
With improved agricultural production capacity, vitalized industrial economy and service industry, and perfected infrastructure, Nanning has gained momentum in its economic development. Taking the establishment of development zones, the implementation of the “136 strategy” (which means to bring Nanning a minor change within 1 year, an intermediate change within 3 years, and a major change within 6 years), and the construction of a “digital Nanning” as breakthroughs, Nanning has embarked on its road to promote industrialization, urbanization and Informationization, and achieved remarkable progress in this process.
Nanning has won many awards for its beautiful and amiable environment such as the Dubai International Award for Best Practices to Improve the Living Environment, the Top Ten Cities for Ecological Construction, the 1st Award for Living Environment in China, and Gardenlike Cities in China. The city has a green coverage of 39.56%, and a per capita public green land of 10.3 square meters.
Nanning has a long history and rich cultural and tourism resources. Different ethnic cultures are co-existing here and the yearly Nanning International Arts Festival of Folk Songs has added glamour to this city that is also a tourism city for its beautiful landscape.
