Geography and climate

    Guangxi is located in the south frontier of China. It closely adjoins Guangdong Province on the southeast, neighboring Hunan, Guizhou and Yunan Province respectively on the northeast, the north and northwest. To the south, it faces Hainan Province across the sea. On the southwest, Guangxi borders with Vietnam with land boundary of 637 kilometers. To the south, it is close to Beibu Gulf and faces Philippines, Vietnam and other Southeast Asian countries across the sea, having total coastline of 1595 kilometers. 

The land area of Guangxi is 236700 square kilometers, where mountains and hills account for 70.8%, plains and tableland 27.1%, rivers and waters 2%. By the end of 2003, the cultivated area is 2.5487 million hectares, accounting for 11% of the total land area.

Tropic of cancer traverses the central part of Guangxi, where subtropical monsoon climate prevails showing the main characteristics of high temperature and plentiful rainfall in long summer, dry and warm in short winter. Annual mean temperature is 21, average annual precipitation is 1800mm, annual sunshine hours is 1600 to 1800. Frostfree period is as long as 280 to 360 days. Favorable water, light and heat conditions bring rich species to Guangxi where trees are ever-green in all seasons.
